Attribution Theory

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 19, 2009 by jordanp17

The attribution theory explaining how people make judgements about the causes of behaviour there is distinctiveness, consistency and consensus.  We attribute (explain) actions and behaviours in ways that maintain our original order of thinking. We look for evidence to prove we were always right in our first impression. We find out what the reason for our success or frailer was like luck, effort ability, task difficulty. We try to explain their actions as well as their successes, failures, behaviour. So there Impressions based on looks, facial expressions and Impressions based on an analytical approach, study them, look for clues, and analyze to explain. There are some mistakes being made like Impressions based on looks, facial expressions, Impressions based on an analytical approach / study them, look for clues, and analyze to explain people to much.

Iraqi prisoner abuse article

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 18, 2009 by jordanp17

Americans were shocked by the photos of U.S. soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners, and now many want to know why “seemingly normal” people could behave so sadistically. Psychologists who study torture say most of us could behave this way under similar circumstances. The questions that are being asked are all good questions to get as much information as they possibly could and the answers that they got back were very good answers. I wish things like this would not be going on but stuff like that does happen and they did a great job of trying to say they are minimizing this sort of thing. It is almost hard to believe that this would happen but they did say that most of the soldiers this would not or does not happen to but it does happen to some.

Things that we can do to prevent these atrocities from occurring again are thing like teaching soldiers more about this kind of thing and According to news reports the guards were reservists and most of them had not been trained to work in a prison or internment camp. Most sources say there were too many prisoners and too few guards. The soldiers’ basic charge was to guard prisoners, but that apparently became unclear when military intelligence officers came forward with vague requests to ’soften up’ prisoners and ’set conditions’ for interrogation. Make sure the unit’s commander visits the prison frequently and conducts unannounced random visits.

I can not believe some of the events that happend here is a video that shows some of the things that happened …..

M.I. test

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 17, 2009 by jordanp17

M.I. test – the M .I. test that I completed was really lopsided and there were some points that were really high then there were some points that were very low. The heist thing in my M.I. test was the kinesthetic part (body smart) I think that is true because I am good at using my hands and have a good hand eye. The lowest part of  my wheel was music smart and that makes sense because I don’t even listen to much music and don’t play any instrument at all. I am also low in naturalistic (nature smart) and pretty smart in interpersonal smart (people smart) and I don’t really think that is so accurate because I am not that good with other people. Another one that was kind of high for the test i did was visual and spatial. My highest one was at 24 and it was kinaesthetic. The lowest was musical and it was at 5.

How to Think Like a Genius

To think more like a genius you need to look at a problem with multiple perspectives. You need to never stop asking questions and continuously expand your knowledge. You can use your imagination constructively and remind yourself there is no such thing as failure. Geniuses remain focused on their goals, Geniuses will pursue objectives with courage, Geniuses will be opportunity seekers and they will enjoy and have fun. What are people most afraid of? They are worried about the possibility of failure. This creates a vicious cycle of fear, doubt, indecision, procrastination and stress. A genius will look at this concept in a radically different way. Failure is viewed as just another way not to do something. The process will be analyzed and will be used in a different way to get better results.

The Symbols and Meanings of Colors

Blue – The Colour of the Sky and the Oceans

Red – The Colour of Blood and of Fire

Green – The Global Symbol of Environmentalism

Yellow – The Colour of Caution and Cowardice

Purple – The Colour of Mysticism and Luxury

White – The Colour of Peace

Black – The Colour of Sophistication and Bad Luck

Different colors will have a wide variety of meanings around the world. For example, in the Middle East, blue is believed to be a protective color. Doorways are painted blue to ward off evil spirits. In Iran, blue represents heaven and immortality, so that’s why most of the mosques in that country are shades of that color. In China, red is a color that brings good luck while in the western world it’s associated with love, passion and revolution. Here are the emotions and cultural characteristics that are linked to cool and warm color

Shopping While Black – Social Experiment

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 16, 2009 by jordanp17

When the black girl walks into the store and the store clerk tries to tell her to leave because she can’t afford the stuff in the store some of the people’s reactions are crazy. The one guy talks to the clerk after the black girl leaves and he agrees with the clerk which I think is terrible. Then when the people tell him that it was an experiment he completely changed his mind and said that the clerk was at fault and they should not judge someone just because they are black. Then the girl that over hears the events going on really starts to listen and then even steps in and says something on how it is not fair. The girl even starts to cry because she thinks it is so unfair that someone would think that of the lady just because she is black. This is a good psych experiment because it really shows what people are thinking it shows there emotion and it shows how they act to a situation when they get put in one like that.

Emotion

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 16, 2009 by jordanp17

Emotion:

An emotion is a temporary experience with negative or positive qualities.  It is felt with some intensity as happening to the self.  It is generated in part by a mental assessment of the situation.  It is accompanied by both learned and innate physical responses.  All emotional responses contain there components. Behavioural responses is something that Consists of muscular movements that are appropriate to the situation that elicts them. Example -dog defending territory takes an aggressive posture, growls and shows its teeth Autonomic responses are these responses are changes in the activity of the autonomic nervous system (fight or flight) .  The system facilitates these behaviours and provides quick mobilization of energy of vigorous movement, heart rate increases, circulation of blood directed away from digestive organs. Hormonal responses reinforces the autonomic responses and hormones secreted by the adrenal glands further increase the heart rate and blood flow to the muscles. They also make more glucose available to them

Baby Left in Car – Social Experiment

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 16, 2009 by jordanp17

The video that I watched on seeing how people would reacted to a baby left in a car on a hot summer day really got my attention how some people did not stop or not do anything about it. It was good to see that there are people out there that would do something about it and those that did wanted to call the cops on the lady and make sure that it would never happen again which is a good thing to see. I think it is really cool to see how people react to situations like this one I like to think about what I might do in this kind of situation I think that I would be one to ask people around me if they knew whose baby it was and try to get people to help me out. Lots of the people were scared to get involved witch is like a fight or flight thing some of the people just take off and some of the people would fight against what is going on.

Online Dating – Swap the Guy

Posted in Psychology 20 on June 16, 2009 by jordanp17

After viewing this video of online dating where a girl and guy are expecting to go on a date with the people that they have been talking to online. They set up a date at a certain place and when they get to the place that they are to meet the person, it does not look like the person they seen online. For the experiment they took and replaced the guy that was an attractive tall person with a guy that was shorter and not as attractive. The first girl lied to the actor and said that he looked like his profile picture and also said that she would go on a second date with him. When she was told that it was an experiment, she then said that she new the guy did not look like his profile picture and that she would probably not go on a second date with him. The second girl was nice to the guy that was the imposter but when the real guy was asked to come sit beside her and the imposter left she told the real guy that she would like to get to know him better and like to go on a date with him. The third girl wanted nothing to do with him and said this is not the guy that he was meant to be.
